Maidstone Community Support Centre was built in 1891 as a hostel for
women working in Maidstone.
It was purchased by the NHS as a nurses’ home during the second
world war.
The only bomb to land in Maidstone killed two people in Marsham
Street and created the area which is now our car park.
The nurses’ home was closed when Maidstone Hospital moved to
Barming.
Social Services and 6 key local charities came together to buy the
building. It was in a dreadful state of repair with no proper heating.
It is a lot better today!
